Meet the Runners - Shane Douglas!

Meet Shane Douglas!

Shane has been a mentor with the KidStart Program for almost two years. He joined Kidstart because he wanted to help students build self confidence and perform better at school through athletics, music, cooking and participation in other community events. As an adult Shane still has several important role models in his life that he looks up to and learns from and he uses those lessons as best he can to help his mentee. Shane was blessed with two amazing parents and he volunteers because he doesn't take that for granted.

When Shane is not mentoring with Kidstart he keeps busy working as a teacher on call in the Comox Valley, working at the Atlas Cafe and as a private math tutor. The main reason that he is participating in the Kidstart Run is Terry Kratzmann. Shane met Terry at a Kidstart meeting late last year and his drive and tenacity inspired him to start running. Shane wants to bring as much awareness of the positive benefits of KidStart as possible and he believes that this run will help many of the kids struggling in our communities realize how great they can be!

Shane will be running the length of the North Island -- from Cape Scott to Courtenay.  That is 375 km!

Good Luck Shane!

"My son has never had a father figure or male role model in his life. I do a lot with him but I can tell that there's still a void. I know he really needs a guy to do stuff with." - Mom of a 9-year-old boy on our waitlist.
