April 7th and the KidStart runners are 1½ km south of Port McNeill at 11 am with another 15 km to run this afternoon. A beautiful sunny day but the wind is starting to pick up so running into the wind this afternoon will mean more of a slog. By the end of the day, they expect to reach their 150 km mark - as Terry says "his cup will be ¼ full" and Shane will have covered more than a third of his distance.
Terry tells us that both he and Shane are holding up well and their support team is amazing. One of the biggest challenges is trying to eat enough calories. They need 4½ thousand calories a day! That's a lot of food to try to cram into three meals so the runners are spreading the calories over five meals each day.
